Industry focused on innovation, resilience, and collaboration to support growth

Aug 6, 2026 (ARLINGTON, VA)– The single-use bioprocessing industry is operating in a more normalized post-pandemic environment, with companies focused on growth, innovation, emerging technologies, automation and artificial intelligence, manufacturing flexibility, and the role single-use technologies will play as new modalities-including cell therapies, gene therapies, and other advanced biopharmaceutical therapies-continue to mature.

Those priorities shaped discussions at the 2026 BPSA International Single-Use Summit, held July 27–29 at the Fairmont Copley Plaza in Boston, MA, USA. Hosted by the Bio-Process Systems Alliance (BPSA), the international association representing the single-use bioprocessing industry, the Summit brought together suppliers, end users, pharmaceutical and biotechnology professionals, and key industry partners. This year marked the first time BPSA brought the Summit to Boston, where the event drew record attendance and connected the global single-use community with one of the world’s leading regions for biopharmaceutical innovation and manufacturing. The strong turnout also reflected BPSA’s continued member engagement and momentum following the association’s 20th anniversary in 2025.

The conversations come at a pivotal time for the industry. Several major market research firms point to continued strong growth in the global single-use bioprocessing market over the next decade. While exact projections vary, many expect the market to roughly double, driven by rising demand for biologics, vaccines, cell therapies, gene therapies, and other advanced modalities.

“BPSA’s Summit has always been where BPSA members and the single-use community come together to discuss the issues that matter most to our industry,” said Chris Clark, Executive Director of BPSA. “Single-use technologies now sit at the center of modern biopharmaceutical manufacturing. What we heard in Boston is that the industry is using these technologies strategically to improve efficiency, support enabling technologies, strengthen quality, and advance innovation. Ultimately, this work supports a larger goal: helping ensure that critical therapies continue reaching patients and consumers around the world,” Clark added.

BPSA extends its appreciation to the 2026 Summit co-chairs, David Radspinner of VintaBio and Brendan Lucey of Kivi Bio, for helping shape this year’s program. BPSA also recognizes Bürkert Fluid Control Systems as the exclusive Welcome Reception Sponsor and thanks its sustaining sponsors, including AdvantaPure, Bürkert Fluid Control Systems, CPC Biotech, Cytiva, Entegris, MilliporeSigma, PendoTECH, RENOLIT Healthcare Solutions, Saint-Gobain, Sartorius, and Solvias, for their ongoing support.

BPSA membership is open to organizations of every size across the single-use value chain-component and material suppliers, equipment manufacturers, pharmaceutical manufacturers, CDMOs, testing and service providers, and other biotechnology companies. Members help shape the industry’s technical guidance and standards, gain early access to BPSA working groups and publications, and connect directly with the end users specifying single-use systems.

The Bio-Process Systems Alliance (BPSA) is pleased to announce the publication of two new technical papers focused on advancing the implementation of single-use technologies across biopharmaceutical manufacturing. The new resources address manufacturing bottlenecks in cell and gene therapy production and the growing adoption of continuous bioprocessing.

The first paper, Navigating Cell and Gene Therapy Manufacturing Bottlenecks, examines common constraints that impact the scalability and reliability of cell and gene therapy manufacturing. The paper highlights how single-use technologies address operational bottlenecks and support flexible and efficient manufacturing strategies in this rapidly evolving sector.

The second paper, Continuous Bioprocessing with Single-Use Technologies, explores how single-use systems support the transition from traditional batch processing to continuous manufacturing. This paper provides a practical overview of key considerations, challenges, and opportunities for integrating single-use technologies into continuous operations.

“These two papers focus on areas that are at the center of innovation and growth across bioprocessing,” said BPSA Chair, Mark Petrich, PhD, of Krystal Biotech. “Single-use technologies continue to play a critical role both in addressing the unique challenges of cell and gene therapy manufacturing and in enabling more flexible approaches to continuous bioprocessing. These BPSA papers provide valuable insights for single-use suppliers and end-users alike.”

“I would like to thank the BPSA Advanced Therapies Committee, co-chaired by Brendan Lucey of Kivi Bio LLC and Todd Pangburn, PhD of Dupont, and the BPSA Continuous Bioprocessing Committee, co-chaired by David Chau, PhD of Thermo Fisher Scientific and Davinder Chawla, PhD, of Sanofi, for their dedication and contributions.”
